Investigation underway after another loaded gun found abandoned on Spencer Rd. in Ithaca

On April 19 at approximately 1:10 p.m. police responded to the 700 block of Spencer Rd. for the report of a person who had located a handgun.

Ithaca police and investigators responded and secured the firearm, which was found loaded with the safety off.

The investigation remains active, but police say this is the second such incident in the last month where a person found a loaded handgun.

It was earlier reported that a young child found a handgun while outside. The child wasn’t hurt in that incident, but police echoed the importance of parents talking to their children about what to do if they find a gun whlie outside or in the community.

IPD asks that anyone with information about this gun contact them as soon as possible to help with the investigation.
