Hochul updates New Yorkers on state’s fight against COVID-19

Governor Kathy Hochul released her latest update on New York’s progress combating COVID-19 on Monday, March 7.

Notable points include New York’s daily positivity rate remaining under 2% for the past 11 consecutive days. On Sunday, March 6, there were 17 total COVID-19 deaths statewide.


As of Sunday, March 6, seven-day average positive test results were at 2.06% for the Finger Lakes region, 2.39% for Western New York, 4.46% for Central New York, and 2.41% for the Southern Tier region.

Additionally, the number of people currently hospitalized for COVID-19 was reported on Sunday to be 231 in the Finger Lakes, 117 in Western NY, 57 in Central NY, and 67 in the Southern Tier.

“We continue to see downward trends across the State thanks to the hard work and dedication of New Yorkers,” said Hochul, according to a press release. “I am grateful for the resiliency and tenacity shown by New Yorkers throughout our battle with COVID-19. I have faith that we will continue to work together to battle whatever comes our way, and the best way to do that is for everyone who hasn’t gotten vaccinated to get their shot today.”
