The top-ranked Hobart hockey team scored twice in the third period as it knocked off Vermont State University Castleton 3-0 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at Spartan Arena this afternoon. With the weekend sweep of Castleton, Hobart is now 4-0-0 to start the season with a 2-0-0 mark in NEHC play.
Junior Tanner Daniels, sophomore Chris Duclair and first-year Adam Mendelsonscored for the Statesmen. Junior Mavrick Goyer started in goal and made 19 saves as he earned his second shutout of the season. It was his 10th career shutout.
Josh Ward played all 60 minutes in goal for The Spartans (0-3-1, 0-2-0). He made 38 saves.
STREAKING
- Hobart extended its winning streak to 18 games. That mark is tied for ninth longest in NCAA Division III history.
- The Statesmen are unbeaten in their last 29 contests (28-0-1). The streak is tied for the fifth-longest in NCAA Division III history.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Daniels opened the scoring at the 4:35 mark of the first period. He fired a one-timer past Ward for his third goal of the season. Senior Luke Aquaro had an assist on the goal.
- Duclair gave Hobart a 2-0 lead just over eight minutes into the third period. He blasted home a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle for his third goal of the season. The power-play goal was assisted by junior Kahlil Fontana and sophomore Bauer Morrissey.
- Three minutes later, Mendelson tacked on an insurance goal. Standing in front of the goal, he redirected a Connor Lally point shot past Ward. Senior Matthew Iasenza added an assist on the goal. It was Mendleson’s first collegiate goal.

- The Statesmen were 1-for-4 on the power play and the Spartans were 0-for-2 with the extra attacker.
CLIMBING THE LADDER
- With a point tonight, Aquaro now has 103 points on his career. He is in ninth on Hobart’s all-time list.
- Goyer’s 10 shutouts are third on Hobart’s all-time list behind Nick Broadwater ’13 (11) and his current teammate Damon Beaver. (14).
