The struggles continued for the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night as they fell 4-2 to the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena, extending their winless streak to nine games (0-6-3).
Jason Zucker scored his eighth goal of the season, and Jiri Kulich tallied his fourth, with Tage Thompson earning an assist on Kulich’s goal to push his point streak to six games (six points over that span).
The Capitals capitalized on special teams, with Tom Wilson scoring twice on the power play. Dylan Strome delivered the decisive third-period goal, while Jakob Chychrun sealed the game with an empty-netter. John Carlson was a key playmaker for Washington, contributing three assists.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stood tall in net for Buffalo, making 27 saves on 30 shots, while Logan Thompson stopped 19 of 21 for Washington.
Buffalo was again without captain Rasmus Dahlin, who missed his fifth straight game due to back spasms sustained on December 3.
The Sabres look to avoid a 10th straight loss on Sunday when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs at 5 p.m.
