Romulus Central School District Superintendent Jennifer Hayden explained the recent moldy bread incident and the district’s response to the Finger Lakes Times. The issue sparked frustration among the community after a student reported mold on a roll served during lunch.
Hayden confirmed that while the moldy roll was immediately removed, an investigation determined that the chicken, which some believed was undercooked, was pre-cooked and met safety standards. The Seneca County Department of Health found no violations but provided additional training on bread storage.
Regarding the donation of 22 sheet pizzas arranged by local business owner Damien Hennigan, Hayden expressed gratitude but explained that food safety regulations prevent outside food donations during school hours. Instead, the pizzas were shared with students participating in after-school activities.
