New York State now enforces stricter penalties for repeat impaired drivers under the “Forfeit after Four” policy. Drivers will permanently lose their license after four drug- or alcohol-related offenses, down from the previous threshold of five.
Additionally, licenses can be permanently denied after three impaired driving convictions if paired with serious driving offenses. Even without severe infractions, re-licensure can be denied for two to five years, depending on prior revocations.
The DMV aims to enhance road safety by removing high-risk drivers. Full details are available on the DMV website.
