New York State has officially lifted its drought watch, ending months of dry conditions that had heightened wildfire risks, particularly in counties around New York City and the Hudson Valley. Reservoir levels have improved, with New York City’s reservoirs now over 75% capacity.
The drought watch, declared in November, escalated to a warning before gradually improving by mid-December. While conditions are now considered “normal” statewide, officials caution that dry spells may persist in some areas.
Residents are encouraged to continue water conservation efforts, including fixing leaks, limiting car washes, and collecting rainwater for plants, as the state monitors ongoing conditions.
