Bill Nye, widely recognized as “The Science Guy,” received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, during a White House ceremony on January 4. Among 19 honorees, Nye was celebrated for inspiring generations with his engaging approach to science education and his advocacy for space exploration and environmental causes.
A Cornell graduate in mechanical engineering, Nye began his career at Boeing before gaining national fame through his Emmy-winning television show in the 1990s. He remains deeply connected to Cornell, contributing to campus projects and events, including the Solar Noon Clock at Rhodes Hall.
As CEO of the Planetary Society, Nye continues his mission to promote science and sustainability, solidifying his legacy as a beloved figure in education and public advocacy.
