All U.S. Postal Service offices will be closed on Thursday, January 9 to honor former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29, 2024, at age 100.
President Joe Biden declared January 9 a National Day of Mourning, closing federal agencies, including the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq. While mail delivery and postal services will pause, private businesses and banks are not required to close.
Carter, the 39th president, is remembered for his humanitarian work, peace efforts, and being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
