Mets avoid arbitration, sign six players to one-year deals

The New York Mets announced that they have reached agreements on one-year contracts with all six of their arbitration-eligible players, finalizing deals with RHP Paul Blackburn, RHP Tylor Megill, LHP David Peterson, outfielders Jose Siri and Tyrone Taylor, and catcher Luis Torrens.

By securing agreements with all eligible players, the Mets avoid arbitration hearings and solidify key depth across their pitching staff, outfield, and catching corps heading into the 2025 season.

Paul Blackburn, acquired from the Athletics at the trade deadline, is expected to be a key piece of the Mets’ rotation after posting a 4.43 ERA in 21 starts last season. Tylor Megill and David Peterson provide additional starting depth, with both right-hander Megill and left-hander Peterson competing for rotation spots.

Jose Siri and Tyrone Taylor bring speed and defensive versatility in the outfield. Siri, formerly with Tampa Bay, hit 25 home runs last season.

With all arbitration cases settled, the Mets front office can now focus on spring training, where several of these players will compete for starting roles and roster spots.
