The West Bloomfield community is mourning the loss of Ronald W. Charron, a devoted public servant, firefighter, and volunteer who passed away on January 16 at the age of 88. Charron, known for his commitment to local organizations and a lifetime of service, was a founding member of the West Bloomfield Fire Department and Ambulance Corps.

For decades, Charron was a cornerstone of civic life in West Bloomfield. He dedicated himself to enhancing community safety as a founding member of the Fire Department, contributing to its growth and operations. Charron also played a critical role in launching the town’s Ambulance Corps, further solidifying his legacy of selflessness and public service.

In addition to his contributions to emergency services, Charron held numerous leadership positions within community organizations, including the West Bloomfield Congregational Church and the Senior Citizens group. He served as the town’s justice from 1994 to 1997 and was deeply involved in fraternal organizations such as the Freemasons, the Lallah Rookh Grotto, and the Order of the Eastern Star, where he served as Grand Patron in 2005.

Charron’s impact extended beyond his official roles. He was remembered by friends and family for his humor, dedication, and often colorful commentary. In his later years, he enjoyed camaraderie at the American Legion Francis M. Dalton Post 282, where he shared daily laughs and a Coors Light with friends.

Charron’s legacy is a testament to the power of volunteerism and community spirit. His contributions to the West Bloomfield Fire Department and beyond leave a lasting impact on the town and its residents.

Memorial services honoring Charron’s life will be held on Saturday, January 25, at 1:45 p.m. at the West Bloomfield Congregational Church. The family requests that donations be made in his memory to the West Bloomfield Fire Department, the West Bloomfield Congregational Church, or the Order of the Eastern Star Hall and Home Foundation.
