Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo holds a commanding lead in the Democratic primary for New York City mayor, polling at 33% despite not officially entering the race, according to an Emerson College poll. Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams trails with just 10% amid poor approval ratings and a criminal indictment.
Cuomo’s name recognition and favorable perception (47%) give him an early edge. Adams, however, remains favored among Black voters when Cuomo is not on the ballot. The city’s ranked-choice voting system may play a pivotal role as 25% of voters remain undecided.
The poll suggests that Cuomo could be poised for a political comeback, though the race is still fluid.
