Ex Hochul aide faces new charges in China case

A former aide to two New York governors and her husband are facing additional charges in a case alleging she acted as an agent for the Chinese government, prosecutors said. Linda Sun and Chris Hu pleaded not guilty in Brooklyn federal court.

Sun, who held key positions in state government, allegedly pushed China’s interests, including blocking Taiwanese officials from meeting the governor. In return, Hu received business favors in China. The couple also used funds linked to China to buy luxury properties and cars. Prosecutors expanded money laundering charges against both, while Hu faces three new counts.

Sun’s lawyers argue she’s being unfairly targeted due to her wealth and ethnicity. Prosecutors maintain she hid her role as a foreign agent. The case is part of a broader effort to crack down on covert Chinese influence in the U.S.
