FRIDAY HS BASKETBALL REPORT: Mynderse boys, Gananda girls win in overtime; Geneva boys blow out Waterloo

The final Friday of the high school basketball regular season brought 16 games to the Wayne-Finger Lakes region, delivering some exciting finishes.

The Mynderse boys secured an overtime victory on the road against Newark despite trailing by 15 at halftime, wrapping up an impressive 3-0 week. Meanwhile, the Gananda girls also won in overtime on the road, narrowly defeating Williamson/Marion despite nearly blowing a 14-point fourth-quarter lead. Another standout result came from the matchup between Waterloo and Geneva, where the Panthers shocked the Tigers with a dominant 40-point victory on their home court.

Overtime

After a tightly contested first quarter that ended tied at 13, the Reds surged ahead in the second to take a 15-point lead at halftime. The Blue Devils went on a run to open the second half to trim Newark’s lead to four entering the fourth. Then, Mynderse forced overtime with the score knotted at 57. In the extra period, the Blue Devils outscored Newark 8-5, securing their fifth consecutive victory. This marked the Reds’ second overtime game in the last week and their third loss in four contests.

The Bombers led the Tigers 14-13 after the first quarter, but Waterloo responded to take a six-point advantage at halftime. The Tigers maintained their lead through three quarters and pulled away late in the fourth, outscoring Bloomfield 16-11. With the victory, Waterloo earned their fifth straight win and completed a season sweep of the Bombers. Bloomfield closed out the regular season with their third loss in five games.
