Second-half surge sends Hobart basketball past Skidmore

The Hobart basketball team pulled away from Skidmore in the second half on the way to an 82-68 Liberty League victory. The Statesmen took control with a 31-11 scoring run during an 11-minute stretch of the final 20 minutes.

Hobart had four players post double digits in the scoring column led by senior Pat Healy’s 18 points. Sophomore Alex Moesch added 15 points. Senior Aidan Rodgers and first-year Allen Mordi both netted 13 points.

Skidmore also put four players in double figures led by Alexei Downie’s 18 points. He also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Aidan Roy chipped in 16 points and a game-high five assists. Charlie Fantom and Joey Skoric contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hobart led for most of the first half but wasn’t able to build more than a seven-point lead.
  • The Statesmen went into the break with a 40-35 lead.
  • Moesch and Skoric each scored 11 points before halftime.
  • Hobart seized control of the game with two big runs in the second half.
  • Clinging to a 3-point lead, Rodgers and Healy scored all of the Statesmens’ points in an 11-3 surge early in the half.
  • Hobart broke things wide open with 16 straight points over a five-minute span midway through the half. Mordi supplied five points and Paki added four as the Statesmen took their largest lead of the game, 76-53.

  • Hobart will wrap up the home portion of its regular season on Saturday, Feb. 15 when the Statesmen take on Bard (11-11, 6-9). Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
