NYCLU backs school district in Clyde-Savannah book ban case

The NYCLU plans to support the state teachers’ union in opposing a local minister’s effort to overturn a decision allowing five books to remain in Clyde-Savannah’s secondary school library, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

The legal battle, led by Rev. Jacob Marchitell and Moms for Liberty, argues the books are pornographic and infringe on parental rights.

The NYCLU reportedly intends to file an amicus brief defending the school district’s stance. Meanwhile, the American Center for Law and Justice, representing the plaintiffs, opposes the teachers’ union and librarian joining the case.

State Education Commissioner Betty Rosa upheld the district’s decision in April, but Marchitell and Moms for Liberty continue to challenge it in court.
