Retired Seneca County Chief Deputy Dale Arcangeli passes away at 74

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of retired Chief Deputy Dale C. Arcangeli, who passed away unexpectedly on February 26 at the age of 74.


Arcangeli dedicated 26 years to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, where he played a pivotal role in establishing both the Dive Team and Mounted Patrol. Rising through the ranks from a junior officer to Chief Deputy, he retired in 1998 after a career marked by service and leadership.

Beyond law enforcement, Arcangeli was deeply involved in his community. He served on the South Seneca School Board and later worked as an investigator at the Finger Lakes Racetrack. Known for his woodworking skills and love for the outdoors, he also enjoyed sharing stories with friends at local spots like Rylee’s Place and the Ovid McDonald’s.

Arcangeli is survived by his sons Justin and Bryan, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his brother Dean, and his longtime partner, Char Butson. He was predeceased by his wife, Tracy, and his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, at Ovid Federated Church, with a reception to follow.
