Bills release Von Miller in cost-cutting move

The Buffalo Bills released veteran pass rusher Von Miller on Sunday, freeing up $8.4 million in cap space ahead of the new league year starting Wednesday.

Despite the move, the team remains open to re-signing Miller, who turns 36 on March 26. His release resulted in $15.4 million in dead cap money, as he was under contract through 2027.

Miller signed a six-year, $120 million deal in 2022 but struggled with injuries. After recording eight sacks in 11 games, he suffered a torn ACL in November 2022. He admitted in 2024 that he “probably should not have played” in 2023, a season in which he recorded zero sacks. He restructured his contract last offseason to help the team’s cap situation.

Miller was suspended four games in 2023 due to a personal conduct violation, though no charges were filed. He rebounded in 2024, recording six sacks in a rotational role. Over three seasons with Buffalo, he had 14 sacks and 23 quarterback hits.

The future Hall of Famer has 129.5 career sacks, ranking 16th all-time, and has won Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos (2015) and Los Angeles Rams (2021).
