Canisteo mayoral race: Thompson vs. McInroy

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

Republican Fred Thompson and independent Richard (Rick) McInroy are competing to become Canisteo’s next mayor in the March 18 election, succeeding outgoing Mayor Monica Recktenwald.

Thompson, a retired Army veteran and former school board member, prioritizes government transparency and village beautification, including road and sidewalk repairs through grant funding. McInroy, a former trustee and deputy mayor, emphasizes public safety, community engagement, and fiscal responsibility while addressing infrastructure challenges like road repairs and flooding concerns.

Additionally, three candidates—James Dineen, Robert Hammond, and Carrie McCourt—are vying for two trustee seats on the village board. The election will take place at Canisteo Town Hall from noon to 9 p.m.
