The Steuben County Legislature has publicly opposed Governor Kathy Hochul’s Executive Order barring corrections officers fired after the wildcat strike from seeking public sector jobs.
County officials argue the order worsens an ongoing staffing crisis and undermines the public service system. They have urged Hochul to revoke the decision, joining other local leaders who have criticized the move as unfair and harmful to law enforcement agencies.
With New York State terminating 2,000 corrections officers, some counties are questioning the legality of the order, while federal officials have called for an investigation.
