The Hobart lacrosse team scored four straight second-half goals to tie St. John’s early in the fourth quarter, but the Red Storm scored four of the final six goals of the game to eke out a 13-11 victory this afternoon.
Hobart sophomore goalie Jackson Faiola made a career-high 16 saves. Sophomore faceoff specialist Mike Valent was 17-of-19 at the X with a game-high nine ground balls. Junior midfielder David Peterkin led the offense with four points on three goals and an assist.
St. John’s got four goals apiece from Brian Kelly and Ryan Ormond. Kelly also added three assists for a game-high seven points. Sophomore long-stick midfielder Dylan Lee recorded a game-high three caused turnovers and a team-high four ground balls. Goalie Patrick Scarborough also made 16 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Red Storm got off to a fast start, scoring the first three goals of the game.
- The Statesmen netted three of the next four, including a pair by senior Will Delano, to trim their deficit to 4-3 at the end of the first quarter.
- Another three-goal run put SJU up 7-3 with two minutes remaining in the first half.
- Senior John Jude Considine and Peterkin scored back-to-back to make it a 7-5 game at halftime.
- The Johnnies regained their four-goal lead with the first two tallies of the second half.
- Hobart used another two-goal burst in the final two minutes of the third quarter to carry some momentum into the final frame. Considine netted his second goal of the day with just 1 second left in the quarter.
- Sophomore Colden Swisher and senior Alex Rosa scored goals a minute apart to open the fourth quarter scoring. Rosa’s extra-man strike was his team-leading 18 goal of the year and it tied the game at 9.
- Mitch Campbell has a hand in three of the next five goals for St. John’s, helping his team build a three-goal lead with 5:24 remaining. He assisted on back-to-back goals that put the Red Storm up 11-9 and then scored one of his own that made it 13-10.
- Peterkin completed the game’s scoring at 4:44 off a feed from Delano, but the Statesmen were unable to get any closer.
KEY STATS
- While most of the game’s stats were virtually even, two categories were squarely in the Red Storm’s favor. SJU committed eight fewer turnovers (7-15) and had more success with the extra man. St. John’s was 3-of-7 with the advantage, while Hobart was just 1-of-5.
- The Statesmen controlled the faceoff X, winning 21-of-28.
ON TO CONFERENCE PLAY
- Hobart will conclude its four-game road trip with its longest trip of the season, a visit to High Point, North Carolina. The Statesmen and Panthers will kick off Atlantic 10 play at noon on Saturday, March 29.
