The U.S. Postal Service has unveiled its new Betty White Forever stamp, honoring the legendary actress, comedic icon, and animal welfare champion with a special first-day-of-issue ceremony at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

The Forever stamp, part of the USPS’s continuing tribute to American cultural icons, captures Betty White’s signature charm and enduring legacy — delivering smiles on envelopes and in hearts across the country.

A Forever Smile: What the Betty White Stamp Looks Like

Designed by Greg Breeding and illustrated by Dale Stephanos, the Betty White stamp features a digital portrait of the star based on a 2010 photograph by Kwaku Alston. Set against a violet backdrop with playful bubbles, the stamp reflects White’s radiant personality. She’s shown in a polka-dotted blue top with a paw print earring, symbolizing her lifelong advocacy for animals.

“I had a eureka moment at breakfast when I sketched a paw print and realized it should be part of her portrait,” said Stephanos.

The pane of 20 Forever stamps is now available for purchase at usps.com, by phone (844-737-7826), by mail, or in person at Post Office locations nationwide.

Honoring a Television Trailblazer

USPS Board of Governors Chairwoman Amber McReynolds opened the ceremony by calling White an “American treasure,” praising her decades-long influence as the “First Lady of Television.”

White’s career began in the early days of television in 1939. Over the next eight decades, she starred in groundbreaking shows including The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Golden Girls, and Hot in Cleveland, and became the first woman to produce a nationally broadcast sitcom. Her quick wit, comedic timing, and warm heart earned her multiple Emmy Awards, a Grammy, and a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

A Life Devoted to Animals

Beyond the screen, White was a fierce animal advocate. Her long-standing relationship with the Los Angeles Zoo included serving as a donor, trustee, and public voice for animal conservation. She even co-produced The Pet Set, a 1971 TV series featuring celebrities and their pets.

At the unveiling, speakers including jazz artist Ellis Hall, zoo trustee Richard Lichtenstein, and meteorologist Danny Romero reflected on White’s legacy in both entertainment and animal welfare.
